Minor Injury Unit

REGIONAL HOSPITAL MULLINGAR MINOR INJURY UNIT HAS EXTENDED HOURS: MONDAY – FRIDAY 8am - 8pm, SATURDAY, SUNDAY & BANK HOLIDAY 10AM - 6PM

Mullingar Minor Injury Unit assesses, manages, and treats minor injuries which are unlikely to require hospital admission. Conveniently, the minor injury unit is located at Charter Medical Private Hospital Ballinderry.

A minor injury unit is an alternative to the busy local emergency department (ED), where patients with serious injury or illnesses take priority.

Open 7 days a week, the Mullingar Minor Injury Unit typically assesses, treats, and discharges patients in less than 90 minutes.

A GP referral is not required, walk-ins are welcomed, and appointments are not necessary. We ask those attending to note that the last registration is 30 minutes prior to closing.

What we treat
Patients aged 16 years and older, with minor injuries which happened in the last 6 weeks.

• Aged 16 years and above
• Sprains, strains & breaks - arms from collar bone to fingertip
• Sprains, strains & breaks - leg from knee to toes
• Wounds, cuts, grazes, scalp lacerations
• Minor burns and scalds
• Foreign bodies
• Minor chest injuries
• Minor rib injuries
• Acute Injury, if occurred within 6 weeks
• Bites (animal or insect only)
• Stitches and stitches removal

We don’t treat
Any injury older than 6 weeks, patients under 16 years.

• Conditions due to “medical illness” such as fever, seizures, and headache
• Non-traumatic limb pain
• Serious head injury
• Chest pain
• ENT Problems
• Respiratory (breathing) conditions
• Abdominal (stomach) pain
• Pelvic or hip injuries
• Pregnancy-related conditions
• Neck or back pain
• Injuries due to self-harm
• Chronic injuries/injuries which are more than 6 weeks old
• Children under 16

There is no waiting time, and you will be treated immediately (max 2 hours treatment time.)
